Consort Frozen Foods, a leading supplier of retail frozen foods and ice cream in the South East and London, has expanded its operations in Burgess Hill to accommodate business growth. The company, with over 35 years of experience, has acquired a third unit on Consort Way to serve as a new ambient storage facility. One of the existing units was repurposed into a modern cold storage area.

MEP Design Scope:

BSE3D were appointed as the MEP consultant for the design across both the newly acquired and the two existing units. Across the expanded facilities our team designed the following services:

We worked with the client, architect and cold store specialist to carry out load assessments for the three units, to understand where electrical supply upgrades would be required to satisfy the demand for each unit. We worked closely with the local DNO, UK Power Networks, to explore all options available on site and on their network to enable the proposed supply upgrades required for the site.

We developed energy-efficient lighting and emergency lighting solutions tailored to the specific requirements of the ambient store, offices and staff welfare areas, ensuring optimal visibility and safety for staff. Our design also included the strategic placement of socket outlets and LV infrastructure to support the operational needs of the storage facilities, including for the cold store equipment, forklift and refrigerated lorry chargers and office areas.

We designed efficient heating and hot water systems for the ambient store unit, and remodelled areas across the existing units to maintain appropriate temperatures for staff and stored goods and provide hot water solutions for staff amenities. The ventilation strategy ensured adequate air circulation within all units, maintaining air quality for staff and product integrity.

Our design process was collaborative, working closely with Consort Frozen Foods to ensure that the MEP systems aligned with their operational requirements and business objectives. We conducted thorough site assessments and utilised modelling tools to optimise system performance and energy efficiency.

The integration of these MEP systems is instrumental in facilitating Consort Frozen Foods’ expansion, enabling them to enhance their storage capabilities and operational efficiency. The upgraded facilities support the company’s commitment to delivering exceptional service and meeting the growing demands of their customers.
