Poole Harbour Complex

As part of the consultancy design team, BSE|3D was appointed to undertake an Energy & Sustainability feasibility study and Building Services Engineering design for this major mixed-use development within Poole Harbour.

A key element of the scheme was the proposed utilisation of seawater from Poole Harbour as a natural heat source for an open-loop water-source heat pump system, supporting a district heating and cooling strategy. The harbour’s relatively stable year-round water temperature provided favourable conditions for this approach.

The development comprises eight buildings, rising to 13 storeys above ground with one basement level, incorporating more than 350 residential dwellings, commercial units, restaurants, pubs, offices, retail facilities and a marina.

The project demonstrates BSE|3D’s capability in applying natural water bodies as sustainable energy sources, integrating water-source heat-pump technology with large-scale district heating and cooling infrastructure.
