REBUILD Madrid: Six key trends shaping the future of European construction

BSE|3D recently established its Madrid office, bringing a dedicated local team and marking an important milestone in the firm’s European expansion. Marking our attendance at REBUILD 2026 a natural next step as we deepen our roots in the Spanish and wider European market.
The team attended REBUILD 2026 at IFEMA Madrid, Europe’s leading event for industrialised construction. The event brought together more than 30,000 professionals from across architecture, engineering, development, and technology to examine where the built environment is heading.
For BSE|3D, the timing was significant. As a building services consultancy with offices across Europe, we are actively expanding our work in Spain. REBUILD provided the ideal platform to understand the challenges, opportunities and directions that matter most to the Spanish real estate and construction sector right now.
Six key themes that defined REBUILD 2026
Across sessions, panel discussions, and networking conversations, six themes emerged consistently.
Housing access and affordability.
The demand for affordable, high-quality homes across Spain and Europe is accelerating innovation. It’s not just in building new homes, but in upgrading ageing stock that no longer meets modern energy or comfort standards.
Industrialisation as a cultural shift
Modern construction is moving toward offsite manufacturing, modular systems and materials such as CLT. The deeper challenge is cultural: rethinking roles, improving coordination, and building stronger ecosystems across all project stakeholders.
Decarbonisation is non-negotiable
From low-carbon concrete to AI-driven material innovation, the industry is actively reducing embodied and operational carbon. Mandatory lifecycle assessments are on the regulatory horizon, accelerating this shift.
Energy rehabilitation at scale
With roughly half of Spain’s buildings constructed before the 1980s, retrofitting for energy performance is a major and urgent opportunity. Renewable gases, biomethane and efficient MEP systems are central to this transition.
Human-centric design
A recurring message: buildings must reconnect with people. From healthcare environments to workplaces, there is a clear shift toward wellbeing, nature integration and spaces where people genuinely want to spend time.
Technology with intent
Digital tools and AI are critical enablers, but only when applied purposefully. The consensus at REBUILD was clear: technology should support design decisions, not replace the thinking behind them.
With a Madrid office and a team embedded in the local Spanish market, BSE|3D is well positioned to support clients navigating Spain’s construction and real estate landscape. REBUILD reinforced the scale of the opportunity here, and the conversations we had across the two days will feed directly into how we grow our work in Spain and across Europe.
