Pelier Street wins Best Small Housing Development

By Karen Womack

Pelier Street has just won Best Small Social Housing Development at the Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Grand Finals!

The Pelier Street project (William Cuffy House, Southwark) was one of the 24 winners last month at the LABC Grand Final Awards 2022. The project was chosen as the winner by a panel of industry experts in the category for Best Small Social Housing.

The new development provided 17 dwellings for social rent in Southwark across seven storeys and utilised mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR) and a communal combined heat and power (CHP) system. Due to the design of the building and the air quality planning requirements, the ventilation strategy was complex. Therefore, BSE3D worked closely with Building Control throughout the project to ensure the system that was installed was both functional and efficient, and achieved the fire safety requirements for the project. This was recognised by LABC during the awards review: ‘This proactive and collaborative approach by the client, designers, contractors and building control teams resulted in a real exchange of knowledge and learning and everybody acknowledging a positive outcome.’.

We worked closely with main contractor Neilcott Construction Ltd to deliver the project and look forward to maintaining and developing that working relationship moving forward.
