BSRIA Briefing 2023

By Harriet Morphew

Report from Philip Todd, Managing Director who attended the BSRIA Briefing 2023:

I was Privileged to attend the BSRIA annual briefing luncheon today by kind invitation of Freese Valves, whom we have worked in collaboration with for many years.

Julia Evans OBE, the CEO of BSRIA, opened the event speaking about the changes in air quality across the globe and the potential changes in law surrounding the right to clean air!

With informative talks from Dr Matthew Hort, Roger Harrabin – BBC Environment and Energy Correspondent, Prof Aaron Gillich – Professor of Building Decarbonisation – Director of NZBC, Enda Hayes  – Professor of Air Quality and Carbon Management, UWE, Dr Yasemin Aktas – Deputy Academic Director at UK Centre for Moisture in Buildings (UKCMB) it is a recommended annual event for anyone with an interest in the built environment.

To conclude the conference, Prof Sir Jonathan Van-Tam MBE, the deputy chief scientific medical officer during the Covid pandemic, provided a superb presentation explaining the whole process during the pandemic and rationale behind some of the (sometimes difficult) decision making/vaccinations, etc. It was brilliant to get an unbiassed synopsis of everything and testament to the many teams of people who worked tirelessly to help save lives and provide the (sometimes difficult) advice to the politicians for decision making.

It was particularly re-assuring (as can been seen from the attached slides) that the risk of the new strain of Covid to many is no more than the common Flu compared to the previously identified risks of the parent variant.
