Engineering in the UK is one of the fastest-growing sectors. At BSE3D, we are always looking for talented engineers who want to be part of that global growth.

The demand for skilled building services engineers has never been greater. The team deliver projects for a range of buildings including, data centres and hospital refurbishments to school builds, care home and hotel fit-outs. The pool of engineers available simply cannot meet the pace of that growth.

For engineers with the right skills and experience, this represents a significant career opportunity. At BSE3D, we have built our reputation as a leading building services consultancy on the strength of our people. The engineers who join us work on complex, varied and rewarding projects that make a real difference to the built environment.

According to the EngineeringUK & Lightcast “Engineering Skills Needs” report, the UK needs 173,000 new engineers and technicians by 2030 just to keep up with demand. This growth rate is faster than almost any other sector in the economy. At the same time, the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s 2025 Skills Survey found that 76% of engineering employers are already struggling to recruit for key roles. And if nothing changes, research from the Society of Engineers projects a shortfall of 1 million engineers in the UK by 2030.

BSE3D is a leading building services consultancy, we are expanding our own team of engineers to meet the increasing demand for our services. Every engineer who joins BSE3D becomes part of a consultancy that is actively delivering projects across some of the most exciting sectors in the UK built environment.

Building services engineering sits at the heart of everything we do. As a consultancy, our team of engineer’s design and deliver mechanical, electrical and public health solutions across some of the most active and demanding sectors in the UK built environment, including defence, data centres, healthcare, infrastructure, hospitality, commercial property, education and retail.

From M&E and HVAC design on hospital frameworks to critical power and cooling in data centres, from school rebuilding programmes to high-end hotel fit-out. Our team of engineers bring the technical expertise and sector knowledge to deliver projects.

What we are seeing right now

Data centre demand has surged across the UK and the world, driven by cloud infrastructure growth and AI workloads. Healthcare is in a sustained build and refurbishment cycle. Defence spending is up, bringing with it increased demand for consultancy expertise in secure environments. Education projects stemming from the government’s school rebuilding programme continue to create significant pipeline across the built environment.

Meanwhile, the engineering workforce is ageing. According to the ECITB Workforce Census 2024, nearly 14.7% of UK engineering workers are now over 60, up from 11.6% in 2021. As experienced professionals approach retirement, the gap between supply and demand will only widen. For BSE3D, this means one thing, we need talented engineers who are ready to step up and take on meaningful, complex work.

BSE3D is growing and we are looking for engineers who want to work on some of the most interesting and varied projects in the across the global. If you are ready for your next challenge, we would love to hear from you. Please email mail@bse3d.com with your CV and cover letter.

Transform The Future

This year Women in Engineering (WES) will be celebrating 100 years.

BSE 3D actively encourage our engineers to progress their professional development. Harriet Morphew, a Building Services Engineer is a student member of WES which is a network of women in engineering who offer inspiration and support to current and aspiring members. In addition to supporting its members, WES aims to inspire, encourage and empower the next generation of women to enter the industry and become engineers. She is also a STEM Ambassador, demonstrating diversity and hopefully inspiring future generations.

WES will coincide their centenary with the International Women in Engineering Day (INWED) on Sunday 23rd June 2019. INWED is an awareness campaign to raise the profile of women in engineering and focus attention on the career opportunities available to girls and women in this exciting industry.

BSE 3D actively promote and support inclusivity and diversity in engineering. The need for a more diverse workforce is ever more apparent with the looming large skills gap and proudly support the INWED awareness campaign.

BSE 3D have an ethos of encouraging children to engage with engineering from an early age. Director Carl Morphew and Building Services Engineer Harriet Morphew presented to local primary schools about STEM, engineering roles, some fun experiments and finishing with an engineering challenge.

Carl explained how engineering influenced him when he was younger and how this ignited the spark for Harriet, who is now a STEM Ambassador and a member of Women’s Engineering Society.

The presentation also included information on how BSE 3D bring buildings to life by designing services, for example: heating, lighting, hot & cold water and the internet.

Demonstrations followed showing what can be achieved with just a few basic items found in the home. Children were given activities, one included – who can be the first to put on the following: hard hat, hi-vis jacket and safety gloves.

Culminating with a bridge building experiment. The task, to design and build a bridge with the least amount of materials using the parameters of the bridge specifications and listed materials.

We need to harness the younger generation and at BSE 3D we are keen for the ‘young people of today’ to become the ‘engineers of tomorrow’. For that we need to engage with them early enough to develop and may be ‘light a spark’!

BSE 3D in partnership with the Local Authority and primary schools from the Crawley area have been given the opportunity to be involved. Students from years 2 and 3 have been selected for this special science engineering project.

BSE 3D Director, Carl Morphew will be visiting each school to announce the project and what their task will be. We don’t want to give too much away at this stage, all we can say…’it will be a fantastic opportunity to put their imagination to good use‘.

We are delighted to offer this wonderful experience to the younger generation to help develop and broaden their horizons and inspire them for the future.

“At its heart, engineering is about using science to find creative practical solutions. It’s a noble profession.” ~ Queen Elizabeth II
